KwaZulu-Natal's provincial bird and the most spectacular thing likely to visit your garden. Mostly it looks dark green and purple until it flies, when the wings flash brilliant crimson. The red comes from turacin, a pigment found nowhere else in the animal kingdom. Follows fruiting figs and syringas.
